Hadley made her foray into the field of interior design fifteen years ago after working as a journalist and freelance writer. When people ask about her shift to design, Hadley often laughs and says "I guess I ended up like my mother!" since her mother Susan St. John also worked as a designer in the Berkshires, where Hadley grew up. Her more complete answer is that the business is creative, interpersonal, and rarely boring. 

Many clients have commented on Hadley's ability to manage projects and set budgets. She works closely with architects, builders and tradespeople in order to keep projects moving forward. And she identifies lines of furniture, fabrics and color schemes that clients appreciate and quickly incorporates them into schemes. Whether a house is being rented, or used exclusively by an individual or family, Hadley tries to hit the nail on the head when it comes to form following function.
