Hadley made her foray into the field of interior design fifteen years ago after working as a journalist and freelance writer. When people ask about her shift to design, Hadley says "I guess I ended up like my mother!" since her mother Susan St. John also worked as a designer in the Berkshires. Her more complete answer is that the business is creative, interpersonal, and often requires many skill sets.  

Hadley works closely with architects, builders and tradespeople in order to keep projects moving forward. And she identifies lines of furniture, fabrics and color schemes that clients appreciate and quickly incorporates them into schemes. On many projects, Hadley collaborates with her longtime friend and former business partner Suzanne Forsyth (pictured below with Hadley), who travels frequently to Nantucket from Boston to assist on projects. 

Whether a house is being rented, or used exclusively by an individual or family, Hadley and Suzanne hit the nail on the head when it comes to form following function.
